Individuals Arrested in Widespread Theft Operation

Extensive Investigation Leads to Multiple Charges

The investigation, spearheaded by the Illinois Attorney General's Office and a coalition of law enforcement agencies, has uncovered a complex scheme in which the five suspects allegedly worked together to steal over 0,000 from video gaming machines located in businesses across 22 counties in Illinois. The accused individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 53, face a variety of charges that include theft, burglary, and money laundering.

Targeted Locations and Stolen Funds

According to the authorities, the suspects targeted a diverse array of establishments, including gas stations, bars, and small video gaming parlors, in their quest to exploit the video gaming machines for financial gain. The alleged thefts, which occurred between January and November 2023, have had a significant impact on dozens of businesses and communities across the state.

Collaborative Efforts Yield Results

"The thefts allegedly committed by this burglary ring impacted dozens of businesses and counties, targeting gas stations, bars and small video gaming machine parlors," said Attorney General Kwame Raoul. "These arrests are the result of countless hours of investigative work and close collaborations between my office and several law enforcement agencies. I would like to thank the Illinois Gaming Board and the agencies that participated in this complex investigation."

Suspects Await Court Appearances and Ongoing Investigations

Four of the five individuals arrested are currently awaiting their initial court appearances in DuPage County, while the fifth suspect, John Friedrich, remains at large. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information regarding Friedrich's whereabouts to assist in his apprehension and ensure that all responsible parties are held accountable for their alleged crimes.

Ongoing Efforts to Protect Businesses and Communities

The arrests and charges in this case underscore the determined efforts of Illinois law enforcement and regulatory agencies to combat organized criminal activity that threatens the well-being of local businesses and communities. As the investigation continues, the authorities remain committed to uncovering the full extent of the theft ring's operations and ensuring that justice is served.
