Sheldon's Performing Arts has been making waves in the performing arts scene with its remarkable achievements. With 12 students competing at the Future Cheer Bolton Arena competition, they brought home prestigious trophies. The students aged five to nine won a first-place trophy in their jazz routine, and those in the eight to 14 age group secured two second-place trophies in jazz and lyrical categories.
Founder's Inspiring Journey
Leah Sheldon, a 24-year-old from Leeds, founded Sheldon's Performing Arts at a young age. She has been a performer since three and holds a first-class honours degree in performing arts. Trained in various styles like ballet, tap, lyrical, jazz, vocals, and drama, she has had a successful career in competitive cheerleading, winning several competitions in the UK and Europe with the LWA Starlights team. She also served as a coach for cheerleading at levels one and two.Assistant Coach's Talents
Assistant coach Lauren Brewster, 20 years old, has also trained in a variety of dance styles and has had main roles in local performances with singing and drama. Together, they have built a performing arts school that started with only ten students and now has "up to 30+ students" attending classes on Saturdays and Competition Team sessions on Monday evenings.Local Initiatives and Partnerships
Since its inception, the school has been actively involved in local initiatives. It took part in Skipton Gala and works with Craven Care Home to organize performances for the residents throughout the year. This shows their commitment to giving back to the community.Offering a Wide Range of Classes
Sheldon's Performing Arts offers a diverse range of classes including recreational and competitive ones in lyrical, jazz, hip hop, performing arts, musical theatre, drama, singing, and street dance for ages two and a half to 16. This provides students with ample opportunities to explore and develop their talents.Supporting Another Local Team
At the recent Future Cheer Bolton Arena competition, Sheldon's Performing Arts also supported Fusion Extreme. This local team, which has been running for 21 months, offers a supportive environment for neurodiverse children. Its head coach, who started dancing at three, has experience in various genres and has taken further qualifications in teaching special educational needs (SEN) classes. Fusion Extreme offers classes in all-star cheer, pom, hip hop, lyrical, and jazz for ages four to 16 years.Both schools welcome new students to try out their classes, showing their openness and eagerness to share their passion for the performing arts.
